Drusian, Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore, Extra Dry, NV

Not all Proseccos are created equal, and this is definitely a superior example. Made from 100% Glera grapes, it has a soft ever-so-slightly off-dry style with sherberty apple and pear fruit to the fore. Charming and very easy to drink, it also makes an excellent spritz. Now-2027
"Continuing the theme of moderation, Drusian, Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superierore Extra Dry NV marries apples and pears with bubbles of great delicacy. If you really must blend away its subtle charms...

Parisio, Gavi, 2025

Riper and more forward than the 2024, this is a super Gavi. Lemons and apples dominate the palate but there is a hint of more exotic fruit from the warmer summer all under-pinned by a core of stony minerality. Bone dry and very refreshing with real character. So much better than the over-cropped and rather dilute Gavi's than we see over here in the UK. A superb summer wine, this would be delicious with salads, seafoods and pasta. A simple dish of spaghetti with new season courgettes,...

Corte Mainente, Pigno, Soave Classico, 2025

100% Garganega grown on red and black volcanic soils in a single vineyard in Pigno, known as one of the best terroirs in the hilly Classico zone and one of the official crus recognised in 2019. Super concentration in this warmer year, with peach and apricot fruit with hints of lemon and salt. It has taken on a little extra fat in the last couple of months and is drinking beautifully now. Very, very, good value for money. Now-2028

Corte Mainente

Soave, Italy

We have chosen a winner to work with in Soave with young Davide Mainente.

His family own 12 hectares of vines, both near the town (the Cengelle vineyard) and in the Classico hillside sites such as Pigno and Tenda.

His wines are winning rave reviews in Italy and here (Jancis Robinson described his 2017 Cengelle on jancisrobinson.com as "Chock-full of...

Garganega

Garganega is a white grape variety grown widely in the Veneto region of North East Italy where it is most famous for the production of Soave.

Though it can be inoffensively neutral, it has a distinct pea-pod character, and can deliver considerable weight and character.

Borgo Paglianetto,, Terravignata, Verdicchio di Matelica, 2025

This is the estate's 'entry level' Verdicchio di Matelica, but it punches well above its price point. It is zesty and bright, packed full of lime, lemon balm and white peach, all underpinned by Matelica's tell-tale stony minerality. An excellent all-rounder, it can be enjoyed on its own or with food; a simple pasta dish with young broad beans, herbs and sharp Pecorino Romano would be perfect. Now-2028
We first visited Borgo Paglianetto in 2022 in the search for...

he Rocca family are a terrific source of great value Italian wines, especially from Puglia and Sicily. Grillo thrives in the heat of the southern Mediterranean, retaining freshness and relatively low alcohol despite the abundant sunshine. This is a delicious example full of lemon and peach fruit. Molettieri, Falanghina, Campania IGP, 2025

100% Falanghina. Bright and open on the nose with white peach and apricot aromas and hints of blossom. Medium-bodied and fresh on the palate with more stone fruit and a welcome note of minerality cuts through on the finish. A delicious, easy-going example of one of the South’s best white grapes. 12.5%. Now-2027

Le Tende, Chiaretto di Bardolino, Classico, 2025

Chiaretto di Bardolino is the most popular rosato in Italy (only Cerasulo di Abruzzo runs it close). Le Tende’s organically tended (and certified) vineyards near Lake Garda enjoy cooling airs from both the large deep lake (chilly for swimming!) and the mountains to the north. Chiaretto simply means “pale” in Italian and this is a beautifully fresh, food-friendly rosé. Made from Corvina with a little Rondinella, the colour all comes from the lightly pressed juice; so no skin contact at...

Taliano, Barbera d'Alba, A Bon Rendre, 2023

A bon rendre - it delivers you goodness. About 1/3 of the wine is aged in old vats. Lovely purple hue. This is crafted in a supple, easy-drinking style, with forward, juicy, berry and plum flavours. Bright and fresh, a crowd-pleaser. Now-2027

Michele Taliano

Montà d'Alba, Italy

The brothers Alberto and Ezio Taliano, third-generation growers, lack land in the grandest Piedmont sites, with 13 hectares assembled over quite a wide area, largely in Roero, which is just to the north of the river Tanaro, but also across the river in Langhe, source of their Nebbiolo d’Alba and Barbaresco.

But their wines are transparent,...

Azienda Agricola Boasso, Dolcetto D'Alba, 2025

Dolcetto, of Piedmont origin, means "little sweet" but the grape is usually vinified dry. It can be crafted to make diverse styles, from a light, fruity wine for serving chilled to a concentrated, oaked wine for ageing. From a small plot of 35 year old vines just north-west of Serralunga this example is unoaked (all in stainless steel) but has plenty of concentration.
Vibrant, youthful purple in the glass. Perfumed, open nose with red cherry and strawberry aromas....

Azienda Agricola Boasso

Serralunga, Italy

The Boasso family’s cellar, in the tiny hamlet of Gabutti, lies just above the steep slope of their top vineyard, facing the little hilltop village of Serralunga across a deep valley.

The cellar is tiny but spotless and perfectly equipped. Nebbiolos from Serralunga have a famed reputation for quality, but also for firm tannins: these Barolos can be...

Ciliegiolo, Il Sole di Notte, Rosso Maremma, 2024

The Ciliegiolo grape is, according to the latest genetic analysis, either a parent of Sangiovese or a close relation, and it thrives here on the Tuscan coast. The name translates as “cherry” and never has a grape been more accurately named. Alongside the eponymous and abundant cherry fruit there are notes of Victoria plum and raspberry and the whole package comes together beautifully. Light, fruity and delightful. Now-2028

Talosa, Chianti Colli Senesi, 2024

This wine comes in part from the younger vines in Montepulciano vineyards near the hill town; 85% Sangiovese with 12% Canaiolo and 3% Mammolo. As ever, a light, perfectly correct Chianti, with bright raspberry and red cherry flavours, balance, sappy bite, and an authentic tannic stiffening. But there's an impressive, perfumed finish too: this is so complete. Now–2027

Michele Biancardi, Uno Piu Uno, Primitivo-Nero di Troia, Puglia, 2025

The name means ‘One Plus One’ and this is a very approachable blend of Puglia’s most best two red grapes. This is the first vintage we have shipped since Michele decided to drop the oak and age only in stainless steel. We think it makes for a much improved wine. The Nero di Troia brings the structure and the Primitivo brings the sweet, plum and raspberry fruit. Uncomplicated and easy drinking – just what everyone needs after a long week at work. Now-2028
