Le Tende, Custoza, 2025
Despite having its DOC since 1971, Custoza has long been in the shadow of wines such as Soave and Gavi, but deserves much better recognition – especially when made this well. A blend of Garganega, Tocai (aka Trebbianello) and Cortese, this is bright and lifted with lemons, green apples, citrus and a subtle herbal note that makes it a fine choice to pair with simply cooked white fish. "Sangiovese for structure, Merlot for rounded fruit, and Lacrima for aromatics" according to Marco Vecchioli at the estate. The actual blend is 50% Sangiovese, 35% Merlot and 15% Lacrima, and it is just the the type of fresh Italian red we love. Lacrima is intensely aromatic, think fragrant rose petals and violets - and the 15% brings a joyful lift and vivacity to the juicy red berry Merlot and crunchy cherry-like Sangiovese. Now-2028
