Blaauwklippen Estate Chenin Blanc, Stellenbosch, 2025
A fresher, vibrant style of Chenin Blanc from fruit grown in the Helderberg area of Stellenbosch. Winemaker Narina Cloete makes this as simply as possible: pick ripe fruit, press whole bunches, ferment in stainless steel and allow it to see on lees for two months. The result is a wonderfully refreshing, zesty Chenin Blanc full of lemon-lime citrus and juicy white peach. A summery, vibrant wine at a very smart price that should please lovers of Sauvignon and Chardonnay equally. Just 12.5%...

We get super excited when Jancis Robinson (or one of her team) write about our wine!
Voted the world's most influential wine critic in polls in the US, France and internationally in 2018, Jancis views herself as a wine writer rather than a wine critic.

Blaauwklippen Estate Merlot, Stellenbosch, 2024
It has been a while since we had a varietal Merlot in the list but this one made the grade when we did our final selection – perhaps because it actually contains 15% Petit Verdot which adds depth and complexity. Aged for 18 months in old (3rd fill) oak barrels to soften the tannins without dominating the ripe, juicy damson and mulberry fruit. Will be a fine match for beef. Now-2029.

Blaauwklippen, De Blaauwe Klip, Bordeaux Blend, Stellenbosch, 2022
For all the changes on the South African wine scene, one thing hasn’t changed: Stellenbosch still makes exceptional Bordeaux blends. This is Blaauwklippen’s top red and this vintage is made of 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Petit Verdot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 7% Merlot, 6% Malbec. Powerful and full-bodied, it is rich and bold, but not overly oaky (just 17% of the French barriques were new). Cassis, plum and blackberry fruit shines through alongside notes of cocoa, graphite and spice. A...

Cabernet Franc
Cabernet Francis a parent of Cabernet Sauvignon.
A cross of it with Sauvignon Blanc resulted in Cabernet Sauvignon. Cabernet Franc tends to be softer and has less tannins than Cabernet Sauvignon, although the two can be difficult to distinguish. Many of the red wines of the Loire are primarily Cabernet Franc.
