Guardia dei Mori, Vermentino, Terre Siciliane, 2025
One of our best value Italian whites. Pear and honeysuckle aromas; followed by a fresh, lightly herby mouthful with impressive concentration for a wine at this price. Try it with a courgette (or should we say zucchini?) and lemon pasta dish. Now-2027

Michele Biancardi, Solo Fiano, IGT Puglia, 2025
Michele Biancardi organically farms 9ha of vines near Cerignola, in the north-western corner of Puglia. The focus is purely on local grapes and Fiano leads the way for whites. Cerignola is just across the Apennines from Avellino in Campania (home of the most famous Fiano vineyards). It’s an ancient grape, but fickle and low-yielding. Here it’s grown on calcareous soils and absolutely thrives.
Michele Biancardi only farms local grapes and Fiano leads the way for whites. Very...

Molettieri, Falanghina, Campania IGP, 2025
100% Falanghina. Bright and open on the nose with white peach and apricot aromas and hints of blossom. Medium-bodied and fresh on the palate with more stone fruit and a welcome note of minerality cuts through on the finish. A delicious, easy-going example of one of the South’s best white grapes. 12.5%. Now-2027

Rocca, Negroamaro, Salento, 2023
This is one of the best selling reds at our Stockbridge shop – partly owing to the patriotic bias of our Italian manager, Fed, but also because customers know it over-delivers for the price. Aged partly in oak, it has lots of Puglian character: generous, ripe damson fruit, spices and just a hint of black olive. If you have a wood fired oven in the garden, this goes superbly with pizza. ow-2027

Michele Biancardi, Primitivo Puro, IGT Puglia, 2025
suggests with masses of red fruit on the nose. The palate has damson and blackberry notes, sweet spice and notes of dried flowers. The ripeness of the fruit gives the impression of sweetness, but the finish is dry (and the technical sheet shows just 4 g/l residual sugar). This is a very grown up, incredibly well made Primitivo that adventurous cooks can pair with everything from oxtail stew to beef rendang. Now-2028

Molettieri, Aglianico, Campania IGP, 2024
Giovanni nearly didn’t let us taste this. He didn’t think there would be a market for crunchy, unoaked, unadorned Aglianico in the UK. We would love to prove him wrong. For a grape with a reputation for being tannic and hard to tame, this is a joy: only just medium-boded and redolent of warm red berries – PYO strawbs on a summers day – and fruity black olives. The tannins are well-behaved, framing the fruit but without intruding on the fun. Try it with fennel-spiked Italian sausages...
