Amadieu, Rasteau, La Copado, 2023

50% Grenache, 40% Cinsault and 10% Syrah grown on south facing clay and limestone terraces. The grapes are destemmed and co-fermented, with half of the blend staying in tank and half maturing in older oak barrels. This doesn’t shy away from the porty sweetness typical of Rasteau, with gorgeous strawberry scented fruit, but the oak gives dark chocolate notes too. Ripe and generous, this is a big wine for dark night, and great with hard cheese. 15%. Now-2029

An agronomist by training, Yves Jean Houser bought a cellar on the edge of the town of Cairanne and just eight hectares of vines. He swiftly converted to bio-dynamic farming (certified) but eschews the fancy pricing which so often accompanies this labour-intensive practice.
