Le Tende, Custoza, 2024

Despite having its DOC since 1971, Custoza is one of the hidden gems of Italian whites. Located between Verona and Lake Garda, it has long been in the shadow of wines such as Soave and Gavi. It deserves much better recognition – especially when made this well. A blend of Garganega, Tocai, Cortese, Trebbianello, this (certified) organic white is fresh, zesty and full of citrus fruit with some mineral notes too. It is fantastic with seafood, lighter pastas and salads. Now-2026

Garganega

Garganega is a white grape variety grown widely in the Veneto region of North East Italy where it is most famous for the production of Soave.

Though it can be inoffensively neutral, it has a distinct pea-pod character, and can deliver considerable weight and character.

Fiorano, Donna Orgilla, Offida Pecorino, 2024

"Scented with lime, fresh herbs, even a little minty. On the palate, all those aromas are expressed with impressive intensity, vibrant and deep. Bone dry with crisp acidity but so much fruit as to be in perfect balance – though may not be suited to anyone who doesn’t like acidity. Long, mouth-watering herbal and citrus aftertaste. A precise wine made by a small, independent winemaker. Really pure and persistent. I started out with a score of 16.5 but the flavour lasted so long, I...

Fiorano

Cossignano, Marche, Italy

We started working with Paolo Beretta (formerly a dentist) and Paola Massi (a research pharmacologist) in 2015, with immediate success.

Their wines exemplify perfectly the virtues of small-scale - they tend just 10 hectares of vines - organic cultivation. All exhibit an entrancing purity of fruit, and all are bottled with minimal sulphur...

Jancis Robinson

We get super excited when Jancis Robinson (or one of her team) write about our wine!

Voted the world's most influential wine critic in polls in the US, France and internationally in 2018, Jancis views herself as a wine writer rather than a wine critic.

She writes daily for JancisRobinson.com and weekly for the Financial Times. She is founder-editor of The Oxford Companion...

Talosa, Chianti Colli Senesi, 2024

This wine comes in part from the younger vines in Montepulciano vineyards near the hill town; 85% Sangiovese with 12% Canaiolo and 3% Mammolo. As ever, a light, perfectly correct Chianti, with bright raspberry and red cherry flavours, balance, sappy bite, and an authentic tannic stiffening. But there's an impressive, perfumed finish too: this is so complete. Now–2027

Taliano, Barbera d'Alba, A Bon Rendre, 2023

A bon rendre - it delivers you goodness. About 1/3 of the wine is aged in old vats. Lovely purple hue. This is crafted in a supple, easy-drinking style, with forward, juicy, berry and plum flavours. Bright and fresh, a crowd-pleaser. Now-2027
The brothers Alberto and Ezio Taliano, third generation growers, make wines which are transparent, true to the grapes and vineyards, and offer excellent value in an area where prices are often challenging. They farm 13 hectares assembled over...

Michele Taliano

Montà d'Alba, Italy

The brothers Alberto and Ezio Taliano, third-generation growers, lack land in the grandest Piedmont sites, with 13 hectares assembled over quite a wide area, largely in Roero, which is just to the north of the river Tanaro, but also across the river in Langhe, source of their Nebbiolo d’Alba and Barbaresco.

But their wines are transparent,...

Great choice of good-value wines in the January sales. The website is really easy to use to make up an order. Delivery, as is often the case, was within 24 hours and, as usual, was well-packed.
