South Africa - The Next Chapter

South Africa has always been an important part of the SVS portfolio since the very early days but new blood was long overdue and this is our first South African list for five years.

Gareth headed down to the Cape last September and returned enthusing about the country’s thriving wine scene and a list of brilliant new wines from six new producers: Stellenbosch’s oldest estate, Blaauwklippen, whose estate Chenin Blanc might be the best value new wine in the list; Cecilia - the personal project of former Piekenierskloof winemaker Cerina van Niekerk that supports a very good cause; and Eight Gates who produce miniscule quantities of superb wines from Breedekloof, Tulbagh and the Polkadraai Hills.

Plus Compagniesdrift, an important community-owned business making great value wines at Meerlust; Newton Johnson, purveyors of stunning Pinot Noir and the best Albarino outside of Galicia; and the Du Bois family who make just one wine - a world class  Chenin Blanc made from some of the most sought after old vines in the Cape. In addition, the list includes old SVS favourites from Piekenierskloof, Goedverwacht, Koelfontein and Domaine des Dieux - as well as four brand new South African Mixed Cases.
