Les Vignerons d’Estezargues, Cuvee des Galets, Cotes du Rhone, 2024
50% Grenache and 50% Syrah. This is a paint-by-numbers Côtes du Rhône that works every time. We are very pleased with the 2024 vintage - dry but juicy raspberry fruit with notes of Christmas spices and a smooth finish. An excellent all-rounder that works for barbecues, parties or with top-quality sausage and mash. Great value. Now-2028

Les Vignerons d’Estézargues
Rhone, France
This small co-operative, in a little village in the Gard, just west of Avignon, is now getting more attention here because oenologist Denis Deschamps makes "natural" wines, i.e. without adding any sulphur (or anything else) during winemaking.
We find this mildly amusing: we have been quietly shipping decent volumes of these delicious, forward-fruited,...

Grenache / Garnacha
Grenache grows well in hot, dry regions, though it can develop very high (15 degrees+) alcohol.
As such it is grown principally in Southern France and Spain (as Garnacha). It is usually blended with other varieties in the Southern Rhône and Languedoc (Syrah, Mourvedre, Carignan, Cinsaut and others).

Lento, Vinho Tinto, DOP Douro, 2022
A pure and unadulterated taste of the Douro, that blends Touriga Nacional, Bastardo, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Armarela, Tinta Roriz and Tinto Cão from 100-year-old vines on schist soils, all vinified in granite lagares and stainless steel. Fragrant and vital red fruits dominate, with just a note of dusty tannin in the background. This is juicy and delightful, especially with a large plate of charcuterie. 12%. Now-2027

Beaujolais
"…if red wine can be nubile, this red wine is" - Andrew Jefford, in The New France
That immediate fruitiness of the Gamay grape, allied to refreshing acidity, moderate alcohol levels - usually 12.5 degrees to 13 degrees - and ability to be served cool (don’t overchill, or you won’t taste anything), makes Beaujolais the definitive summer...

Gamay is Beaujolais! Lovely medium to light red wine, with fresh acidity for summer drinking with great potential for ageing in good vintages.

La Liquiere, Tutti Frutti Rouge, Vin de France 2024
"Full bottle 1,145 g. 60% Cinsault, 20% Syrah, and 20% Grenache. The vines are all from AOC Faugères but declassified to Vin de France. A wine that lives up to its name. Tutti frutti, but not at all jammy or confected. Just lively, fun, robust blackberry, plum and strawberry fruit laced up with lively tannins, a bit of liquorice and a menthol kiss." 16/20, 2025-2027, Tamlyn Currin, www.jancisrobinson.com, 9th August 2025

There’s something very complete about our annual offer of wines from the Languedoc and Roussillon: with whites, rosés and reds, and wonderful fortified wines, the Vins Doux Naturels which are such a speciality of the region, there should be something for all tastes. Secondly, there are wines for every budget; at every level we believe these wines continue to offer terrific...

Fiorano, Terre di Giobbe, Rosso Piceno Superiore, 2021
Rosso Piceno Superiore comes from a group of 13 villages near Ascoli Piceno. This example is from 80% Montepulciano aged in old French oak barrels and 20% Sangiovese from stainless steel, adding some freshness. Ripeness and meatiness. Dark-fruited - blackberries and blackcurrants - and potent, with notes of black olive. This big, structured wine demands robust food: one would drink it there with the wild boar of Norcia – but anything slow cooked would be as good here, for example belly of...

We started working with Paolo Beretta (formerly a dentist) and Paola Massi (a research pharmacologist) in 2015, with immediate success.
Their wines exemplify perfectly the virtues of small-scale - they tend just 10 hectares of vines - organic cultivation. All exhibit an entrancing purity of fruit, and all are bottled with minimal sulphur...
