Château Rocher Gardat, Montagne Saint-Emilion, 2020
Mickael Moze-Berthon crafts powerful, clean and modern-style reds in the tiny hamlet of Bertin, north of Saint-Emilion where his principal wines are made, his Montagne Saint-Emilion and Saint-Emilion. 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, grown on thinly-soiled, argilo-calcaire slopes, into 30% new barrels.
The perfume oozes out of the glass – crushed black fruit with a savoury note. It’s rare to find red Bordeaux with that lovely cassis quality at this price. Concentrated, meaty, with correct tannins, impressive and surprisingly ready. Now-2028
