The Boasso family’s cellar, in the tiny hamlet of Gabutti, lies just above the steep slope of their top vineyard, facing the little hilltop village of Serralunga across a deep valley.

Azienda Agricola Boasso, Barolo Gabutti, 2018
From the Gabutti vineyard below the cellar, a south-east facing site on calcareous marl at about 330m of altitude. 100% Nebbiolo aged in a mix of traditional large Slavonian oak vats and smaller French oak.
Very open, perfumed with ripe red berries and quinine. Very powerful and opulent, with spice and leather aromatics dancing around the red fruit core. Silky tannins give correct underlying structure. Now-2031
"Serralunga d'Alba. Surprisingly deep ruby for this light vintage. Rich, dark nose with touches of gingerbread, leather and plenty of depth. Lashings of juicy fruit and bags of tannins in equal measure. Supple, long and right now a little breathtaking. 2022-2023." 16.5/20, Walter Speller, jancisrobinson.com, 20th July 2022
