Cape Rock, Vredendal
Gavin Brand is not, at first glance, a maverick. A mildly introverted and modest young man, he used to be a landscape architect in Cape Town before wine became his calling. But he is doing everything right here, and the wines express his gentle personality.
Cape Rock is an 11 hectare farm just above the Olifants river, between the towns of Vredendal and Klawer, 300km north from Cape Town and 30 km inland from Doringbaai on the west coast. At the moment Gavin is only making a fraction of the wine his farm could produce.
