La Combe Saint-Paul, Chardonnay, IGP Pays d'Oc, 2022

Unoaked, this Chardonnay shows peach, apricot and citrus fruit flavours. Ripe and textured but also fresh and crisp on the finish, it would not be out of place in a flight of Mâcons. Now-2024

Languedoc-Roussillon

There’s something very complete about our annual offer of wines from the Languedoc and Roussillon: with whites, rosés and reds, and wonderful fortified wines, the Vins Doux Naturels which are such a speciality of the region, there should be something for all tastes. Secondly, there are wines for every budget; at every level we believe these wines continue to offer terrific...

La Combe Saint-Paul

La Clape, France

Paul and Line Maury might be our youngest producers but winemaking runs in the genes.

Paul’s grandparents and great grandparents were winemakers specialising in single varietal wines, and we list his fine examples of Vermentino, Chardonnay and Viognier.

In 2008 Paul came across the opportunity to buy vines on La Clape and create his own domaine....

Chardonnay

Chardonnay is one of the most-widely planted varieties in the world.

Arguably not the most characterful grape, hence its common ageing in oak, yet at its pinnacle in Burgundy it produces some of the greatest (and certainly most expensive) white wines in the world. Look out for unoaked Chardonnay, it can make a pleasant change, and usually goes down very well with all those people who...

L'Estabel, Languedoc Blanc, Grand Cuvee Comtesse, 2022

"Gold medal Paris 2023. Blend of Clairette, Grenache Blanc, Rolle and Bourboulenc from Cabrières schist, bottled in an unusual dark flute. Really mineral, intriguing nose. There’s something quite like a dry Riesling about the build of this super-refreshing wine with its excellent natural acidity and mineral elements. Slightly underripe greengage fruit. Amazing value! VVGV 17/20", Jancis Robinson MW, jancisrobinson.com, 11th May 2023

Jancis Robinson

We get super excited when Jancis Robinson (or one of her team) write about our wine!

Voted the world's most influential wine critic in polls in the US, France and internationally in 2018, Jancis views herself as a wine writer rather than a wine critic.

She writes daily for JancisRobinson.com and weekly for the Financial Times. She is founder-editor of The Oxford Companion...

Mes Lies Melon, Vin de France 2022

Made by the brilliant, entrepreneurial Jérémie Huchet who saw there was a gap in the market for a light wine made from blending halves of two grapes in plentiful supply in the Loire - the Melon of Muscadet and Sauvignon Blanc. This has an open, grassy Sauvignon-dominated aroma, with a light floral note; and then delivers a zippy, lightly exotically fruited mouthful with plenty of drive and freshness. Finishes with a zip. Ideal warm-weather quaffing. Now-2025

Loire Valley

In early February I undertook our annual visit to the wine fair in Angers, escaping the snow which engulfed much of the UK during that week.

This is the yearly opportunity for the vast majority of vignerons in the Loire valley to show off their latest offerings to the rest of the world. The early season’s weather in 2008 was not kind, with variously frost, hail and torrential...

Forges, Chenin de Loire, 2022

We have been buying from Domaine des Forges for over twenty years. They make a terrific range of dry and sweet Chenin Blancs, plus reds too, all offering remarkable value. We loved this unoaked Chenin Blanc, its concentration and fat evidence of the hot and dry summer of 2022. Full of Seville orange and lime flavours, with just a hint of honey on the finish. Very classic and very delicious. Now-2024

Great choice of good-value wines in the January sales. The website is really easy to use to make up an order. Delivery, as is often the case, was within 24 hours and, as usual, was well-packed.
