Mes Lies Melon, Vin de France, 2024
Superb value Loire white, made by the brilliant, entrepreneurial Jérémie Huchet who saw there was a gap in the market for a light wine made from blending halves of two grapes in plentiful supply in the Loire - the Melon of Muscadet and Sauvignon Blanc. Fresh and fruity with zesty, zippy grapefruit and gooseberry fruit and even a touch of alphonso mango. Excellent as an aperitif or with shellfish. Now-2026

Loire Valley
In early February I undertook our annual visit to the wine fair in Angers, escaping the snow which engulfed much of the UK during that week.
This is the yearly opportunity for the vast majority of vignerons in the Loire valley to show off their latest offerings to the rest of the world. The early season’s weather in 2008 was not kind, with variously frost, hail and torrential...

L’Oratge, Garnatxa Blanca, Terra Alta, 2025
Ebro but changed its name and label for the 2024 vintage. It remains a super value, dry-but fruity white from the Catalan mountains inland from Barcelona. Grapefruit scented with herbs - rosemary and bay leaf - with attractive pithiness and an incisive, lightly almondy finish. Now-2028

Quinta do Convento, Vinho Branco, DOP Douro, 2022
Quinta do Convento is named after the Quinta do Convento de São Pedro das Águias, a stunning deconsecrated medieval monastery in the Távora valley. The Convento wines are the estate’s flagship wines. Blended from 30% Viosinho, 25% from a field blend of mixed vines, 20% Cercial, 15% Arinto and 10% Gouveio, given 9 months aging, with 10% in second and third fill French oak barrels. A really textured white with herbs, apples and melons being the primary flavours. There is a subtle oak note...

Chateau Ferry Lacombe, Haedus, Cotes de Provence Blanc, 2024
“I don't like the clear-glass bottle (light strike, people) but it's hard to resist the attitude and amplitude of this wine that swings brazenly tropical while still vibing Mediterranean herbs. Pineapple and sage, pomelo and tarragon. It's a wine that will definitely be happy on the table with almost any food you put next to it, and will, also, I think, please both Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc fans." 16/20. We get super excited when Jancis Robinson (or one of her team) write about our wine!
Voted the world's most influential wine critic in polls in the US, France and internationally in 2018, Jancis views herself as a wine writer rather than a wine critic.
She writes daily for JancisRobinson.com and weekly for the Financial Times. She is founder-editor of The Oxford Companion...
