MAGNUM Chateau de la Liquière, Faugeres, Cistus Blanc, 2024

A blend of Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Rolle, this is always one of most elegant whites from the Languedoc.  A small percentage of the Roussanne is oaked to add a little extra spice and depth, while Faugères' famous schist soils provide a fine, mineral core that restrains some of the expressive lemon, apple and white peach fruit and subtle floral notes of jasmine and honeysuckle. Now-2029

"Roussanne is such a wonderful grape – summed up in five words: a sonnet to yellow flowers. And this wine, despite the creditworthy back-up vocals of Vermentino, is a Roussanne sonnet to yellow flowers and everything that comes with them – acacia and linden, coronilla and daffodil. There is the delicate sweetness of honeysuckle nectar, the spiky bitter spiciness of nasturtium, the wax of frangipani and the creaminess of yellow-hearted gardenia. Peppermint finish. The tech notes suggest it’s an aperitif wine but I’m not so sure. I think this wine was born for buttered scallops served with grapefruit-zest and marigold-petal crumble. GV. 17.5/20. 2026-2034." Great choice of good-value wines in the January sales. The website is really easy to use to make up an order. Delivery, as is often the case, was within 24 hours and, as usual, was well-packed.
