“Really delicious oaked, certified-biodynamic northern-Rhône blend of Marsanne and Roussanne. Pungent with notes of mirabelle and peach. Quite a rich start and then a bone-dry, attractively bitter end. A very superior wine!”, Jancis Robinson MW, Whites for the 2024 Festive Season , FT Weekend Magazine , 7th December 2024
" Full bottle 1,247 g. Much cheaper than Chapoutier's' delicious Granits version. Equal parts Marsanne and Roussanne, 90% aged in barrel and 10% in clay amphorae. Certified biodynamic. Deep gold. Dense and pungent with notes of Mirabelle and peach. Quite a rich start and then a bone-dry end. So much flavour and extract for so (relatively) little alcohol! In terms of structure and usefulness it's not unlike a Grosses Gewächs Riesling, though with a bit less acidity. The amphora and granite provide zest and texture, even a slight note of attractive bitterness on the end. A very superior wine! 17.5/20, Drink 2024-2029" Jancis Robinson MW, jancisrobinson.com, 25th October 2024
Aromas of cream and yellow Mirabelle plums. Initially silkily subtle, this opens out boldly, showing apricot and plum flavours with that characteristic fat Marsanne texture. Terrific, long and stony finish. Now-2029
The Verzier family has owned land here since 1828, but only in 1988 did father Philippe begin to focus on wine, ceasing the sale of grapes from his 2.5 hectares to the local co-operative and starting to bottle his own wine. Now the family farm 10 hectares of vines and son Maxime, having done apprenticeships in Burgundy, Alsace, South Africa and Canada, is working with his father. Philippe’s wife Isabelle studied naturopathic medicine, and the family apply those natural principles to tending their vines, for example using herbal sprays. All wines here are certified bio-dynamic (Demeter).
Great choice of good-value wines in the January sales. The website is really easy to use to make up an order. Delivery, as is often the case, was within 24 hours and, as usual, was well-packed.Read More
