Mas des Brousses, Blanc, IGP Saint-Guilhem-le- Desert, 2022
This is our second vintage of the white from Mas des Brousses and it is evey inch as superb as the first. From a potpourri of aromatic varieties - Gros and Petit Manseng, Rolle, Chenin Blanc and Roussanne - lightly oaked, it shows a delightful tension between open, ripe orchard fruits and honeyed richness. There is a herbal quality to this vintage and some minerality too. A grand white wine that has a lot going on. It is delicious now and will age beautifully. Serve with Roast Chicken to appreciate it at its best. Now-2026
Brousses translates as bush, or brush; this is, literally, the farm in the garrigue. Amidst the rolling scrub-covered hills around Puéchabon and the pebble-strewn terrasses near the Hérault river lie the domaine’s plots of vines. Tall Géraldine Combes (from a family who have inhabited Puéchabon, near Gignac, since 1525) tends the vines whilst husband Xavier Peyraud, grandson of the legendary Lucien Peyraud of Domaine Tempier, is the winemaker. They have been organic in practice for years (with 2019 the first certified vintage) and now largely eschew sulphur in winemaking.
