Roche aux Moines is one of the top vineyards in Savennières, a tiny but famed appellation on south-facing vineyards running down to the Loire west of Angers: it’s the source of wines with intense flavour and character. From barrel-fermented Chenin Blanc, aged in oak for 11 months with regular lees stirring, this is satisfying and complex.
The nose is bursting with Seville orange, baked apple and a little pudding spice. This maintains on the palate with some honeyed notes and a fine vein of minerality running through it. Completely gastronomic and beguiling. The Branchereau family at Forges recommend decanting before serving. Now-2029
