The Burgundy Pyramid

Making sense of the complexity of the complexity of Burgundy isn’t easy.

Though Burgundy only comprises 5% of France’s vineyard area, it holds 100 different Appellations, 25% of the entire French total.  There are no less than 5,000 growers, 85% of whom own less than 10 hectares, and four fifths of them make wine.

Domaine Huber-Verdereau, Monthelie, La Combe Danay, Burgundy EP 2022 (Case of 12 bottles)

We think the village of Monthélie continues to offer great value in Burgundy and Thiebault makes one of the prettiest examples. The plot of vines planted in 1981 near the border with Volnay is exposed, so colder and therefore later ripening. 1 year in old 500l. barrels. Perfumed with black fruit and a floral hint. Great purity of fruit, fresh, with well-integrated tannins and splendid length. Tastes like a grander appellation – fantastic. 2025-2030

Please note this wine is not available for immediate delivery and excludes duty & VAT, (payabale on delivery) We will contact you when the wine arrives in the UK, most likely in the autumn.

Great choice of good-value wines in the January sales. The website is really easy to use to make up an order. Delivery, as is often the case, was within 24 hours and, as usual, was well-packed.
