I Fabbri, Chianti Classico, Terra di Lamole, 2020
"Delicious, all-the-boxes-ticked Chianti Classico. New leather, sour cherries, liquorice and thyme. The gently powdery, supple, sensuous tannins suck on the fruit, pulling it from sweetness and audaciously charming red-berry friendliness into Chianti classic sour reds and savouriness. Mouth-watering and vigorous. Tingling with joyous life." 17/20, 2024-2027, Tamlyn Currin, jancisrobinson.com, 1st December 2023
90% Sangiovese, 10% Canaiolo, about half in cement and half in French oak.
Soft, rose petal-like hue. Such an appealing scent – cherries and red berries. Classic sour cherry character, with just a little of that Sangiovese savouriness peeping out already. Supporting tannins there. Very aromatic, all the way to a very long finish. Now-2028
Susanna Grassi continues to produce exemplary high-altitude Chianti Classico at I Fabbri, which has been in her family for 11 generations. In the Lamole subzone of Greve, it’s one of the highest in Chianti Classico: here about 450-680m. of altitude brings genuine freshness to the wines. These wines are crafted in a traditional style - and as such they age gracefully - but Susanna is also dedicated to organic cultivation, and we think that brings an unusual purity and transparency to the fruit.
