Château Beauregard Ducasse, Cuvée Albert Duran, Graves, 2018
The Perromat family’s estate is now in its seventh generation, run by Albert with help from his father Jacques and his uncle. They own land at Mazères near Langon at the very southern end of the Graves, with about 50 hectares of gravelly vineyards on limestone sub-soils hacked out of the surrounding forest from 1850. This is their top red, from about 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot, well-oaked. We love their wines: we started with the 2006 vintage of this traditionally framed and concentrated wine. We haven’t pushed this vintage much previously – but now it’s drinking perfectly. First impression is of great mass: a depth of black fruit compôte flavours enlivened by Christmas spice and a hint of dried fig. Aromatically expressive, it also has years to go. Now-2028
