Le Lupinaie, Ciliegiolo, Rosso Maremma, 2022
For years we have hunted for a Ciliegiolo – this grape is, according to the latest genetic analysis, a parent of Sangiovese, and it’s worth seeking out, in particular in its principal homes of the Maremma on the Tuscan coast and around Narni in southern Umbria. The name translates as “cherry” and never has a grape been more accurately named: it’s cherry scented and crushed cherry flavoured – and a particular type of black cherry, not sweet but dark and fleshy. This opens out attractively and delivers immediate pleasure. We anticipate it becoming as much a staple of our range as the Fiorano Sangiovese. Now-2027
