However beautiful the Cape winelands are one is never too far away from a reminder of the economic and social realities of modern South Africa, which makes businesses like the community-owned Compagniesdrift all the more important.

Founded in 2015 Compagniesdrift was launched by farm workers with ties to leading Stellenbosch wine properties Meerlust, Vriesenhof and Ken Forester. The initial focus was a logistics business helping small wineries to store and distribute their wines. 

The next step was to launch their own wines made by renowned Meerlust winemaker Altus Treurnicht. The Chardonnay is a fresh and fruity white, perfect for summer drinking with friends. The Cabernet-Merlot is a touch more serious but still packed with cassis and plum fruit.
