Moraima, Albariño Sobre Lias, Rías Baixas, 2025
A super-concentrated Albarino that shows how impressive this grape can be when sourced from low yielding old vines and given extended lees ageing (sobre lias means ‘on the lees’). Many of the vines are over a hundred years old and pre-date phylloxera. The resulting wine is ripe and textured with vivid peach, apricot, and Amalfi lemon notes. Prepare a plate of Pulpo a la Gallega and enjoy. 13%. Now-2028

Newton Johnson, Albarino, Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, South Africa, 2024
Newton Johnson were the first estate in South Africa to release an Albarino, back in 2013. It remains one of the very best from anywhere in the New World. The grapes are grown 4km - 8km from the Atlantic in three vineyards with granitic soils. The wine is aged in a combination on concrete eggs and stainless steel.
