This has rightly become one of our go-to good value whites and it’s again impressive in this latest vintage. Macabeo is the same grape as Viura, the principal ingredient in most white Rioja. Fresh and lively; with mid-palate nougat-like notes of cream and nuts; and kumquats and apricots on the long finish. Classy, interesting, equally good as a light aperitif as with food - and excellent value. Now-2026

Superb value Loire white, made by the brilliant, entrepreneurial Jérémie Huchet who saw there was a gap in the market for a light wine made from blending halves of two grapes in plentiful supply in the Loire - the Melon of Muscadet and Sauvignon Blanc. Fresh and fruity with zesty, zippy grapefruit and gooseberry fruit and even a touch of alphonso mango. Excellent as an aperitif or with shellfish. Now-2026
