Thomas-Hatte, Champagne, Brut, Millésime 2020
We all love Franck Thomas's vintage Champagne and feel we don't feature it enough as we sell so much of his standard cuvée, our house Champagne. This is from a very different blend with Chardonnay taking the leading role with 50% of the blend, followed by 30% Pinot Noir and 20% Pinot Meunier. This assemblage gives the wine an added freshness and zip compared to the Brut whilst maintaining the toasty, brioche-like notes that characterise all Thomas-Hatté Champagnes. A definite step...

Chardonnay
Chardonnay is one of the most-widely planted varieties in the world.
Arguably not the most characterful grape, hence its common ageing in oak, yet at its pinnacle in Burgundy it produces some of the greatest (and certainly most expensive) white wines in the world. Look out for unoaked Chardonnay, it can make a pleasant change, and usually goes down very well with all those people who...

Pandolfi Price, Larkun Chardonnay, Valle del Itata, 2022
"Quite a bit of struck match on the nose – though not excessive. Masses of rich fruit on the palate but not at all heavy. So enjoyable! Really meets every taste bud head on. I don't think I would age it for very long but it's absolutely lovely now. Beautiful precision and balance. I'm so glad someone is bringing this into the UK. VGV, 17/20, 2024-2027", Jancis Robinson MW, jancisrobinson.com 2nd August 2025.

Fiorano, Donna Orgilla, Offida Pecorino, 2024
The Pecorino grape is an ancient grape of the southern Marche, grown pretty much exclusively there: Offida Pecorino is a DOCG for wines made from Pecorino in this commune in the province of Ascoli Piceno. Decanter magazine described it as “a very on-trend white wine…undoubtedly hip”. That isn’t why we ship it! As Decanter also noted, “Stand-out Pecorinos, such as those from Aurora, Fiorano or Pantaleone need a year or two in bottle to show their best”. This has so much...

Cossignano, Marche, Italy
We started working with Paolo Beretta (formerly a dentist) and Paola Massi (a research pharmacologist) in 2015, with immediate success.
Their wines exemplify perfectly the virtues of small-scale - they tend just 10 hectares of vines - organic cultivation. All exhibit an entrancing purity of fruit, and all are bottled with minimal sulphur...

Domaine des Garriguettes, Cotes du Rhone Rouge, Tradition, 2024
A classic and superior southern Rhône, from bio-dynamically farmed (and certified) vines around Gadagne, south-east of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Made from a blend of 50% Grenache, 25% Mourvèdre and 25% Syrah. Sébastien has continued his drive for less extraction and more purity in this vintage and this is an excellent result. Very pretty red fruit on the nose and energetic on the palate with peppered strawberries and damson fruit. Alongside the lift and vibrancy, there is power and weight...

Grenache / Garnacha
Grenache grows well in hot, dry regions, though it can develop very high (15 degrees+) alcohol.
As such it is grown principally in Southern France and Spain (as Garnacha). It is usually blended with other varieties in the Southern Rhône and Languedoc (Syrah, Mourvedre, Carignan, Cinsaut and others).
Its flavour usually encompasses the...

Hoddles Creek Pinot Noir, Yarra Valley, 2023
Hoddles Creek is rather a hidden gem here in the UK – but their reputation for top class Pinot Noir in Australia continues to grow and grow. All de-stemmed fruit with no crushing. 30% new, 30% one year old and the rest in older barrels. Ruby bright. Red and black cherries, fringed by toast and vanilla. Very pure and elegant. Plenty of body for keeping. Now-2029

Cabernet Franc
Cabernet Francis a parent of Cabernet Sauvignon.
A cross of it with Sauvignon Blanc resulted in Cabernet Sauvignon. Cabernet Franc tends to be softer and has less tannins than Cabernet Sauvignon, although the two can be difficult to distinguish. Many of the red wines of the Loire are primarily Cabernet Franc.
