The Roudier family at Vendôme now farm just under a hectare of Cornas, passed on to them by the retiring Jean-Marie Teysseire. The Syrah vines are approximately 80 years old in the high Chaban sector, on granitic soils marked by baryte, quartz-like inclusions, hence the name. The 2022, aged in 500l. demi-muids, 25% new, is majestic. Perfumed and floral on the nose; ripe, layered and intense on the palate with spiced black fruit and hints of iron. Silky tannins hold everything close at the moment. No rush here – this is a wine that will reward time in the cellar 2027-2037.
