Domaine Frederic Lambert, Cotes du Jura Chardonnay, Les Gryphees, 2022

Les Gryphées refers to the fossils of ancient oysters found in the vineyards, and this was our pick of over the 300 wines we tasted at Wine Paris back in February. A tiny production single vineyard Chardonnay made in a conventional Burgundian style. It has weight, structure, fruit and minerality perfectly in harmony with spiced apple fruit and just a hint of crème fraiche from the one-third aged in new oak. Serious and impressive, this is more than a match for top 1er Cru white Burgundy. Now-2032

"Full bottle 1,377 g. Gryphées are the fossils of marine bivalves found in the vineyard that grows Chardonnay for this wine. Made à la bourguignon with a third new oak. SVS only recently found this domaine in Le Chateley, set up on 7 ha of vineyard by someone who worked for the local wine board for 10 years so has great local knowledge. Really exciting, energetic wine that smells as though there was a little skin contact and with lots of richness on the palate. Arguably a lot more interesting than many a white burgundy. Definitely recommended and not overpriced. It has a really appetising mineral kick on the end. Seriously interesting and persistent. 17.5/20, Drink 2025-2030” Jancis Robinson MW, jancisrobinson.com, 2nd August 2025

Great choice of good-value wines in the January sales. The website is really easy to use to make up an order. Delivery, as is often the case, was within 24 hours and, as usual, was well-packed.
