Chateau Maillet, Pomerol 2020
Mickael Moze-Berthon's top Pomerol - a tiny production - comes from his best, densely planted parcel on gravel, clay, and sandy soils, close to Chateau Bon Pasteur, not far from the border with St. Emilion. The wine, from 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, is vinified in barrel and is aged in 100% new French oak. As one would suspect from that treatment - plus the viticultural consultancy of Hubert du Bouard of Angelus fame - this is in a concentrated, oaky idiom with intense black fruit. Flamboyant and massive. Best 2026-2031
