Forges, Sauvignon Blanc, IGP Val de Loire, 2023

Text book Loire Sauvignon and utterly charming with it. Aromas of fresh cut grass and citrus abound. The palate is light and mouthwatering with notes of lemon and elderflower. An ideal summer wine, equally at home on the lunch table as it is on its own in the glass. Now-2025

Loire Valley

In early February I undertook our annual visit to the wine fair in Angers, escaping the snow which engulfed much of the UK during that week.

This is the yearly opportunity for the vast majority of vignerons in the Loire valley to show off their latest offerings to the rest of the world. The early season’s weather in 2008 was not kind, with variously frost, hail and torrential...

L'Estabel, Languedoc Blanc, Grand Cuvee Comtesse, 2023

L’Estabel is a small co-operative with vineyards on schist in Cabrières. It chooses to carry on bottling this wine in the dark flute-shaped bottle traditionally used here. This is the latest vintage of the blend of Grenache Blanc and Clairette with a little Bourbolenc which became a huge hit for us last year. White flowers, grapefruit and lime. Refreshing and lightly aromatic. Now-2025

Languedoc-Roussillon

There’s something very complete about our annual offer of wines from the Languedoc and Roussillon: with whites, rosés and reds, and wonderful fortified wines, the Vins Doux Naturels which are such a speciality of the region, there should be something for all tastes. Secondly, there are wines for every budget; at every level we believe these wines continue to offer terrific...

Mes Lies Melon, Vin de France 2022

Made by the brilliant, entrepreneurial Jérémie Huchet who saw there was a gap in the market for a light wine made from blending halves of two grapes in plentiful supply in the Loire - the Melon of Muscadet and Sauvignon Blanc. This has an open, grassy Sauvignon-dominated aroma, with a light floral note; and then delivers a zippy, lightly exotically fruited mouthful with plenty of drive and freshness. Finishes with a zip. Ideal warm-weather quaffing. Now-2025

Great choice of good-value wines in the January sales. The website is really easy to use to make up an order. Delivery, as is often the case, was within 24 hours and, as usual, was well-packed.
