Hoddles Creek Pinot Noir, Yarra Valley, 2021

Franco says the best vintage since 2017. 11 months in barrel; 30% new, 30% one year old and the rest 2-3 years old. Beautiful nose of dark fruits. Great depth and richness. Fine mid palate tannins. Now-2027

Vivid deep crimson hue. Cherry, raspberry, strawberry all populate the intense but perfectly created pinot, each reflected in a Catherine wheel of pinot noir essence. Hoddles Creek does it again and again. Australia’s best value pinot? Gold and 96/100”, James Halliday’s Wine Companion, November 2022.

Lightish ruby. Delicately perfumed with red fruit and subtle floral notes. Really pretty and inviting and not overly sweet-smelling. Succulent, finely textured and juicy, the tannins are gentle yet sufficient to provide a framework for the scented fruit. A light touch and GV in these days of Pinot-price inflation. Long, refreshing finish with a touch of oak spice though the oak is fully integrated and in the background. There's no rush to drink this but no need to wait. 16.5/20 2023-2027.
