Chateau Beauregard Ducasse, Graves, 2020
From the far south of the Graves near Langon, a splendidly suave and traditional Bordeaux, now being run by son Albert with help from his father and uncle. 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon; and about 20% in barrels. Deeply hued. Youthful but already delicious and interesting: red cherry and berry heart enlivened by a hint of liquorice. Lovely ripeness without heat. Graceful, with just the right support of gentle tannins and restrained Graves character. Now-2028
The previous 2019 vintage was praised by Jancis Robinson MW thus: "Pure, lively Graves with its lightly stony character. Far from a blockbuster but just classic – not lean. Really sleek, aromatic wine without that much tannin. Best with food but it could be sipped without. Admirably long and fresh finish for the money. Yet another Bordeaux bargain, even if not for long-term cellaring. VGV, 16.5/20, Drink 2023-2027, Jancis Robinson MW, jancisrobinson.com, 7th November 2023. We feel comfortable that the 2020 vintage is very much in the same vein.
