Sweet Wines

We love sweet wine, and there’s no old-fashioned snobbish disdain here for wines with engaging sweetness.

Our own taste is for sweet wines which retain enough acidity not to be simply cloying. For example we continue to champion wines from the Loire, where late harvest Chenin Blancs can be intensely sweet yet with enough balancing acidity to last for decades. Alongside these we will always offer a selection from Bordeaux and south-west France, plus examples from Italy, Austria and Hungary.

Note that there are numerous delicious medium-dry or demi-sec styles - for example Alsace Vendange Tardive, German Auslese or demi-sec Vouvray which are not rich enough to be served as sweet wines acompanying a pudding but which make fine aperitifs or accompaniments to cheese and light fruit desserts.
Please do note the bottle sizes of sweet wines which range from halves via 50cls. (2/3 of a bottle) to full bottles.
