The 10 Best Rosés for Summer 2022

7th July 2022

It's summer, time to break out the Rosés. For more and more wine lovers every year, a perfectly chilled glass of Rosé is the true taste of summer.

Whilst our picks can be enjoyed throughout the year, our selection has been chosen to celebrate the warmer weather, the sunny days and the lighter evenings.

Here’s our hand-picked top 10 Best Rosés for the summer!

Le Petit Pont Rose, IGP Pays d'Oc, 2021

Exceptionally popular, we sell far more of the Petit Pont Rosé than we do of the equivalent white and red added together - that's how good this honest rosé is. From Grenache and Cinsault, in the Provençale style, pale, light and refreshing, it offers a scent of red berries and a pretty mouthful of strawberry and cranberry fruit, with a crisp finish. Nothing complicated, just a well-made, dry rosé perfect for regular consumption. All for under £10 a bottle. Now-2023

La Combe Saint-Paul, Les Amandiers, Rosé, IGP Pays d’Oc, 2021

From a blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah. Very pale salmon hue. Perfume of redcurrant and raspberry. Subtle, understated and pure, with a hint of cranberry. Really quite sophisticated – why one earth didn’t we ship this delicious rosé from one of our top growers before? Now-2023.

La Salette, IGP Côtes de Gascogne, Rosé, 2021

This year the wine is 100% Merlot. There is real depth of flavour and a wonderful pink hue to this wine. Intense red fruit dominates and there is pleasing weight on the palate too. Delicious on its own but would work well with light lunches. Now-2023

Chateau La Grave, Minervois Rose, Expression, 2021

From a blend of Syrah and Grenache, this unfailingly delivers splendid ripeness and intensity. Pale salmon pink. This is a perfect all-rounder, fruity enough to enjoy on its own but also dry enough for food. Now-2023

Ferry Lacombe, Mystere, Rose, IGP Mediterranee, 2021

This is our third vintage of the Mystère Rosé and it is as delicious as ever. It’s a blend of 80% Grenache Noir and 20% Grenache Blanc, a slight change on the previous vintage. Vibrant and moreish, with notes of grapefruit and flat peach. Incredibly refreshing and perfect for quaffing al fresco. Now-2023.

Le Tende, Chiaretto di Bardolino, Classico, 2021

Our latest find from northern Italy - a charming Chiaretto (the name simply means “pale” in Italian) from Corvina Veronese, Rondinella and Sangiovese, certified organic. Pale and clear. Subtle fruit - just hints of strawberries - fresh and pure, with a lemon-fresh finish. As good on its own as with a light lunch of salume. Now-2023

Les Quatre Tours, Coteaux d'Aix en Provence Rose, Classique, 2021

The 2021 growing season was long and warm, with temperatures remaining stable, giving a wine of wonderful balance and freshness. Based on Grenache, there is pretty red fruit, with hints of stone fruit and blossom. Very pale pink, classic Provence refinement. Now-2023

Les Quatre Tours, Coteaux d'Aix en Provence Rose, Signature, 2021

The characteristic Provençale blend based on Syrah and Grenache with Cinsault, from a small co-operative just north of Aix. Very pale pink, with generous fruit and restrained elegance: flavours of white peach, berries and cream (even a pleasing hint of a Strawberry Mivvi!). Satisfying weight and a fine dry finish. Now-2023.

Chateau Ferry Lacombe, Naos, Cotes de Provence Rose, 2021

Naos is a Greek temple or shrine. The Pinot family, who run this Château in the Vallée de l’Arc near St Maximin-la-Ste-Baume, like Greek names for their wines, perhaps because their vineyards lie in the foothills of Mont Olympe (819m.). This is one of their best, from 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah grown on argilo-calcaire soils. Pure and bright salmon pink in appearance. There is a delicious minerality to the wine. Generous citrus and ripe berry fruit. The finish is very long and there is pleasing depth to it as well. Now-2023

Cherrier Père et fils, Sancerre Rosé, 2021

A showstopper - 100% Pinot Noir and shows the full nobility inherent in this varietal. Wild strawberry and raspberry are the initial flavours which are joined with a subtle creaminess on the finish. The flavours linger and there is fresh acidity. This is an ideal rosé to partner with food and could handle poached salmon or white meats with ease. Now-2023
