Recent market research indicated that Argentine Malbec was this country's favourite red wine style. The rationale for this may be based on Malbec's reliability: you get what you pay for here, each wine offering greater fruit concentration (and smarter barrel-ageing at the upper levels) as one goes up the selection. The modestly priced wines have a puppy-like charm; and the top reds are deeply coloured, intense wines which age for years and demand meat.
