Grenache / Garnacha
Grenache grows well in hot, dry regions, though it can develop very high (15 degrees+) alcohol.
As such it is grown principally in Southern France and Spain (as Garnacha). It is usually blended with other varieties in the Southern Rhône and Languedoc (Syrah, Mourvedre, Carignan, Cinsaut and others).
Its flavour usually encompasses the...

Chateau du Seuil, Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence, 2024
Organically farmed since 2020, north of Aix-en-Provence on plains 350m above sea level. A blend of Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Rolle. Very pale pink. This turns up the dial on ‘everyday rosé’ - everything is just more focused and intense. Fragrant blossom and stone fruit to the fore. Now-2027

La Combe Saint-Paul
La Clape, France
Paul and Line Maury might be our youngest producers but winemaking runs in the genes.
Paul’s grandparents and great grandparents were winemakers specialising in single varietal wines, and we list his fine examples of Vermentino, Chardonnay and Viognier.
In 2008 Paul came across the opportunity to buy vines on La Clape and create his own domaine....

La Madeleine, Juli, Pinot Nero Rosato, 2023
A surprise: who would have thought one would find an elegant Pinot Noir rosé in southern Umbria, near Narni? It’s named after Giulia, the eldest daughter of the D’Alema family, who runs the seven hectares of vines with her mother. This is pale pink, beautifully ripe and rounded, silky, with juicy red cherry and redcurrant flavours. So prettily scented, a delicious treat. Enjoy on its own - or it has enough body to accompany food well. Drink this year.

Le Tende, Chiaretto di Bardolino, Classico, 2024
A charming Chiaretto (the name simply means “pale” in Italian) based on 80% Corvina with Rondinella and Molinara, certified organic. Very pale – it’s just the press juice, given no time on the skins at all. Crunchy redcurrant fruit, vibrant and delicious. Fantastic with Italian-inspired summery food. Now-2026

Clos Floridene, Le Rosé de Floridene, Bordeaux, 2023
Clos Floridène, in Pujols sur Ciron in the Graves region, was established on just two hectares in 1982 by Denis and Florence Dubourdieu, and named after a conflation of the founders’ first names. Over the last decades the estate has grown to 40 hectares, with a winery constructed in 2016-18. It's now run by their son, Jean-Jacques.
The family first made a rosé in the 2004 vintage. Unlike some Bordeaux rosés which are made by the saignée method almost as a by-product of...
