Domaine Frederic Lambert, Cotes du Jura Chardonnay, Les Gryphees, 2022

Les Gryphées refers to the fossils of ancient oysters found in the vineyards, and this was our pick of over the 300 wines we tasted at Wine Paris back in February. A tiny production single vineyard Chardonnay made in a conventional Burgundian style. It has weight, structure, fruit and minerality perfectly in harmony with spiced apple fruit and just a hint of crème fraiche from the one-third aged in new oak. Serious and impressive, this is more than a match for top 1er Cru white Burgundy....

Domaine Frederic Lambert, Cotes du Jura Tradition, Sous Voile, 2022

70% Chardonnay and 30% Savagnin, fermented and aged ‘sous voile’ separately for two years before blending. Savagnin is the most celebrated Jurassienne white grape and it adds higher acidity and zest to the Chardonnay. A very intense wines with baked apple, almond and white peach notes  with textbook Fino sherry notes. The soaring acidity on the very long finish demands food but will also help it age superbly in the cellar. Now-2033

Chardonnay

Chardonnay is one of the most-widely planted varieties in the world.

Arguably not the most characterful grape, hence its common ageing in oak, yet at its pinnacle in Burgundy it produces some of the greatest (and certainly most expensive) white wines in the world. Look out for unoaked Chardonnay, it can make a pleasant change, and usually goes down very well with all those people who...

Domaine Frederic Lambert, Cotes du Jura Trousseau, 2023

Whilst Jura is famed for its white wines, there are some excellent (light) reds too. Trousseau is our favourite of the local grapes. Beautiful pale ruby colour with a perfumed, pretty red fruit nose. Light and elegant on the palate with earthy, slightly smoky raspberry and plum fruit with very fine tannins adding all important structure and depth. Aged for a year in old oak, it will appeal to Pinot Noir lovers looking for something different. Now-2028

Great choice of good-value wines in the January sales. The website is really easy to use to make up an order. Delivery, as is often the case, was within 24 hours and, as usual, was well-packed.
