Chamonix owns vineyards above the town running from 380 to 600 metres in altitude, planted from 1998.
Under the winemaking since 2001 of the youthful-looking Gottfried Mocke the wines got better and better, and in his latter vintages he steered the style of the wines here away from concentration and power and more towards elegance, finesse and structure.
However 2015 was Gottfried’s last vintage and the estate’s wines did not offer the same consistency under his successor. A recent tasting of the 2018s from tank suggests they are back on course, but this explains the brevity of our current selection.
