Alun G, September 2022

A mixed case purchased recently threw up some real gems at very reasonable prices. Every bottle was excellent and very representative of its origins, but I would like to highlight two wines.

Bordeaux at the lower end of the scale can sometimes be stalky, dull and tart but 2018 Gravieres de la Brandille was a delight, offering soft, Merlot-dominated fruit with lush texture and lovely balance. Superb with lamb chops.

The 2020 Touraine Sauvignon from Domaine de l'Aumonier punched well above its weight; the high quality of the vintage has imbued the wine with a richness of texture which perfectly balances the natural acidity of the Sauvignon Blanc grape grown here.
