Sauvignon Blanc is still the UK’s number one white grape variety in terms of bottles sold, with New Zealand leading the way, overtaking the classic French styles from the Loire and Bordeaux. The grape’s dry-but-fruity style is easy to appreciate and often just as good without food as it is at dinner. The fact the winemaking is relatively straightforward – usually all stainless steel and bottled fresh – keeps the prices relatively low too.
