The Loire, Sparkling & Beaujolais List 2022

21st May 2022

Think summer drinking and think Loire – in particular refreshing Muscadet, bright Sauvignon Blancs and perfumed Cabernet Francs – but don’t ignore the brilliant dry and sweet Chenins.

If ever there was a time for to enjoy a glass of fizz, this is it, so there’s a selection of Sparkling Wines and Champagne. It’s hard to pick a favourite but Clotilde Davenne’s classy zero dosage Crémant de Bourgogne would make a perfectly refreshing bottle on a summer day.  Then there’s wines from the Loire - where the 2021 vintage marks a return to bright and crisp Sauvignons after a couple of very hot summers; and Beaujolais. Forget any out-of-date negative memories of Beaujolais of old: climate change and a renewed dedication to quality amongst a younger generation of growers have made these Gamays sing.
