Domaine Pichat, Syrah, Cotes de Verenay, IGP Collines Rhodaniennes, 2016

In Stock Now!

The lightly oaked Syrah, from young vines within the Côte Rôtie appellation (so it could legally be sold as Côte Rôtie) is an oh-so-drinkable example of lowish alcohol, pure, fine, northern Rhône Syrah - with just a little mocha accent from the barrels. Now-2022

Stéphane Pichat is beginning to build a name for himself, both in France and here, where Rhône authority John Livingstone-Learmonth rates his wines highly. His Côte-Rôtie remains very moderately priced, but I doubt it will stay at this level for long.

Stéphane doesn’t seek to make oaky and tannic wines, but rather seeks finesse, equilibrium and moderate alcohol. Both wines can be enjoyed fairly soon after the vintage, but the Côte Rôtie has the poise and concentration to age well too.
