There’s something very complete about our annual offer of wines from the Languedoc and Roussillon: with whites, rosés and reds, and wonderful fortified wines, the Vins Doux Naturels which are such a speciality of the region, there should be something for all tastes. Secondly, there are wines for every budget; at every level we believe these wines continue to offer terrific...

Grenache / Garnacha
Grenache grows well in hot, dry regions, though it can develop very high (15 degrees+) alcohol.
As such it is grown principally in Southern France and Spain (as Garnacha). It is usually blended with other varieties in the Southern Rhône and Languedoc (Syrah, Mourvedre, Carignan, Cinsaut and others).
Its flavour usually encompasses the...
Discover MoreJardin Privado, Cabernet Sauvignon, Central Valley, 2021
The “secret garden” is the label for Valle Frio’s superior wines. Whilst labelled as Central Valley, this is based on fruit from Maipo, amongst the best zones for Cabernet in Chile. Strikingly pure blackcurrant perfume. Not a fruit bomb, but appealingly balanced, with a bright cut to the black fruit. With well-integrated oak and some decent tannins, this may keep extremely well for a wine at this price – and could make a pleasant surprise in a year or two. Now-2028

La Purisima, Filarmonia, Yecla, 2022
MSM stands for Monastrell, Syrah and Merlot, 34% of the former and 33% of the others. Certified organic & vegan, this is a crowd pleaser, offering a gush of very ripe fruit - plum, blackberry and dark cherry - all underpinned by hints of vanilla and cinnamon. The ripe Syrah brings a certain sweetness. There's a pleasing mouth-coating quality too, with just a little well integrated tannin. The instruments on the label are presumably intended to symbolise the varieties playing in harmony:...

Piekenierskloof, Cinsault, 2021
Glorious translucent ruby in the glass. Crushed strawberry and raspberry mix together to create a delicious, red fruited cocktail of a wine. Vibrant acidity underpins these flavours and there is just a little texture to round it out: the best of sunny new world fruit with old world refinement. Now-2025
How we came to work with Piekenierskloof: For years I had been hearing about Piekenierskloof - not as a wine producer but as a source of grapes for numerous other winemakers, young...

South Africa
For years I had been hearing about Piekenierskloof – not as a wine producer but as a source of grapes for numerous other winemakers, young and old.
I didn’t realise that Piekenierskloof wasn’t just a ward (the smallest geographical unit in the South African regional classification) but one large estate, formerly a...

It's not just English people who long to live on a farm in Tuscany - in 1991 Aldo Galimberti, tired of the city, realised the same dream, buying an old farmhouse near Montiano in the heart of the Maremma. Now his family farm 25 hectares of vines on rolling hills just inland from the Tuscan coast.
We also ship the family's delicious Ciliegiolo, but their principal wine is their Morellino (= Sangiovese) di Scansano (a town just south-east of Grosseto). Sangiovese is known...
