Château Beauregard Ducasse

Graves

Jacques Perromat’s sixth generation family estate lies at Mazères near Langon at the southern end of the Graves, with about 50 hectares of gravelly vineyards on limestone sub-soils hacked out of the surrounding forest from 1850.

This is as far removed - and not just in distance - from the grand estates of the Haut-Médoc as possible: here the...

Bright crimson. Fresh, appetising nose that's more alluring than the 2019 Gravières de la Brandille from the same retailer. Pure, lively Graves with its lightly stony character. Far from a blockbuster but just classic – not lean. Really sleek, aromatic wine without that much tannin. Best with food but it could be sipped without. Admirably long and fresh finish for the money. Yet another Bordeaux bargain, even if not for long-term cellaring. VGV, 16.5/20, Drink 2023-2027, Jancis Robinson MW, November 2023

From the far south of the Graves near Langon, a splendidly suave and traditional Bordeaux, now being run by son Albert with help from his father and uncle. 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon; and about 20% in barrels. Open and generous red berried fruit, with all the sucrosité of a hot summer, but this wine remains classic in style. Excellent aromatics, very smooth tannins and restrained Graves character.
