Juicy fruit, drawing from the clementine on the nose, adding Seville-orange zest, and the broad brushstroke of spice taking on the more precise flavours of liquorice, cinnamon, clove. Curved and rich in a way that reminds me a bit of South African Chenin. A sense of richness despite the relatively low alcohol. Named because François Lequin deliberately gives this wine a traditional style of vinification: it's 100% barrel fermented, with 10% new oak; and given regular lees stirring to develop texture and breadth. Open, clean and delicately perfumed. Lovely burst of fresh citrus, with splendid ripeness - there's almost a hint of stone fruit. Attractive fat and buttery, yet with a long fresh finish. As usual, this punches far above its generic Bourgogne Chardonnay label. Now-2025
