Fleurie has an association with “flowery” – but the best wines can have substance too. Bright youthful purple. Vibrant red-berried and black-cherried fruit. Very traditional example, showing a lively bite and enough fruit tannins to accompany food well. Now-2024 

Cru (from the 10 Cru villages) Beaujolais remains undervalued. The levity and charm of juicy Gamay is out of fashion presumably because people still hold bad memories of thin Beaujolais Nouveau. But with warmer summers the old vines of the region produce deliciously ripe juice. Fleurie has an association with "flowery" - but the best wines can have backbone too.

La Chapelle des Bois, long owned by the Coudert family, has been bought by Frederic Montangeron, a go-ahead guy in Beaujolais. but the former owners' traditional label lives on with this wine.
