Old Road Wine, Grand-mere, Semillon, 2017

Produced from vines planted in 1936 at 350m above sea level this is a superb Semillon. The age and altitude of the vines shows by creating an intense and balanced wine. Ripe stone fruit and candied citrus notes are present in abundance. There is also a sweet spice due to time spent aging in old oak barrels. A wonderful waxy texture rounds out the mouthfeel. This is delicious now but will certainly age, if your patience holds. Now-2025

"Most of the Cape's best Semillons seem to come from the same vineyard - La Colline in Franschhoek - and this is no exception. Mineral, taut and quite shy at the moment, this promises future riches. Lanolin, wax and citrus flavours are complemented by subtle oak. 94/100. 2019-25." Tim Atkin MW, South African Report

More delicious wine from Stone Vine and Sun. Highly recommended.
