Badenhorst Family White, Kalmoesfontein White Blend, Coastal Region, 2019

Just six hundred cases made of Adi Badenhorst’s top white blend, based on 54% Chenin Blanc, with, in declining proportions, Semillon, Roussanne, Viognier, Grenache Blanc and Palomino. Most of the grapes are pressed together, then fermented and aged in large old foudres for 10 months before resting on their lees in concrete for another 6 months before bottling.

Dazzling straight out of the blocks: flavours of key lime pie and zest plus stone fruit; concentrated, with a chalky backbone; incipient hints of honeyed richness and savouriness; and an unfurling finish. Decant to drink now – and will keep well too. Now-2027
