Goedverwacht

Goedverwacht Robertson, South Africa Goedverwacht translates from Afrikaans as good hope – or great expectations, hence the labelling. The du Toit family farm no less than 172 hectares of vines along the bends of the Breede river near Bonnievale. The wines are made by father Jan in collaboration with son Gawie.  Jan once firmly told me his place in the world of wine in South Africa...

Arguably not the most characterful grape, hence its common ageing in oak, yet at its pinnacle in Burgundy it produces some of the greatest (and certainly most expensive) white wines in the world. Goedverwacht, J & G Chardonnay, Robertson, 2018

Goedverwacht translates from Afrikaans as "good hope".This Chardonnay is made by father Jan Du Toit in collaboration with son Gawie, hence the J & G name on their superior range. It’s a small batch - just 9 barrels, so 6600 bottles - of Chardonnay aged in barrel for nine months. It well reflects the benefits of careful matching of variety to soil type, largely clay with underlying limestone.

Lightly oaked, creamy example. Offering a ripe gush of melon and tangerine, this is generously flavoured, lightly buttery Chardonnay. Plenty of volume – and decent length. Bring on butter chicken or spicy seafood. Now-2022

Absolutely loving the sun case, what a great way to be introduced to new wines.

Just wanted to say thank you so much for sending my order of 2 x Domaine Begude Rosé to my son and daughter-in-law - I couldn't believe that they received it within a day of my placing the order with you. That is IMPRESSIVE, especially given the current trying times.
