Meursault, France

At Stone, Vine & Sun we are so proud to have introduced Thiébault Verdereau’s wines to the UK market.

His is a fascinating story. When his maternal grandfather Raoul Verdereau retired in 1974, his family decided to keep his three hectares of vines but not farm them.

Thiébault, born and raised in Alsace, became a sommelier but...

Chardonnay

Chardonnay is one of the most-widely planted varieties in the world.

Arguably not the most characterful grape, hence its common ageing in oak, yet at its pinnacle in Burgundy it produces some of the greatest (and certainly most expensive) white wines in the world. From one parcel of 43 year old vines, noted on the label (see above): "Référence Cadastrale BCH11-12 Meursault". Raised on the lees in 500 and 350l.barrels. Such an expressive perfume: lime flower and choux pastry. Limpid and elegant, but with ample breadth, this is a Puligny-Montrachet look-alike. Energetic freshness. Superb B Blanc. Late 2021-2024

SVS is one of the nicest merchants to deal with. Fabulous choices of producer and wines, friendly cheerful service, keen prices and boundless enthusiasm. Top wine critics (eg Jancis Robinson) often rave about the SVS portfolio of wines. Simon and his team also have a 'philanthropic' soft spot for South African wines where the whole wine trade suffered not just an export ban on wine but a domestic one too for a while. You cannot go wrong with any wine in the portfolio. Buy with confidence.

I look to a wine merchant to explore wine regions in person and discover excellent producers. Then of course to put good information on their web site, to provide accessible and friendly advice and to make the buying process easy and reliable. SVS ticks all these boxes. I am a very satisfied customer.
