Domaine Jérome Gradassi, Chateauneuf-du-Pape, 2015
Jérôme Gradassi's vineyards are all on the north side of Châteauneuf where the soils tend to be based on clay and sand and show few of the famous pudding stones. These cooler soils are less prone to drought and tend to produce an elegant style of Châteauneuf. The vineyards, mostly dating to the 1970s, are planted to bout 75% Grenache and the rest Mourvèdre, with a little Syrah. Wonderfully smooth and polished. Intense berry fruit coulis, but with plenty of substance.
"Only medium depth of a colour more ruby than crimson. Meaty nose with really jewelly richness. Very savoury and well balanced. Good lift and rosy sweetness. Long and very satisfying already. GV (Good Value). 16.5/20" Jancis Robinson. Drink now-2027.
